About the Team
You can expect to work in a self-directed team. You’ll be on a team with five other people, including backend and infrastructure engineers. The members of our team are given autonomy and responsibility. Everyone is expected to be involved in research, gathering feedback, proposing ideas, building solutions, prioritisation, and impact evaluation.
In this role you will...
- Build core services and packages. You’ll work on components for real-time bidding, propagating database changes, distributing files, processing streams, debugging on the command-line, and our service framework.
- Optimise for performance in a large-scale distributed system. Our key services run in multiple locations across the globe and process millions of operations per second. We ensure they respond in milliseconds through optimised code and utilising hardware efficiently.
- Provide a great experience for developers. We’re the stewards for CI/CD, secrets management, and tooling. You’ll work closely with developers to build a platform that addresses their needs, while enabling autonomy and eliminating friction.
- Help maintain a reliable hybrid infrastructure. The platform runs on a mix of bare-metal hardware, compute instances, and managed cloud services. You’ll contribute towards keeping this usable, up-to-date, reliable, and observable.
- Work in a self-directed team. The members of our team are given autonomy and responsibility. Everyone is expected to be involved in research, gathering feedback, proposing ideas, building solutions, prioritisation, and impact evaluation.
You will be a great fit if...
- You have proven experience of building software with Go. Experience or an interest in working with developer platforms, CI/CD, orchestration, distributed systems, or developer experience is a plus.

You recognise the characteristics of your audience and adjust the level of detail accordingly. When challenged with a difference of opinion, you respectfully convey your argument and are willing to compromise when necessary.

- Go. The primary language for our backend services.
- Nomad and Consul. These form our primary platform for deployment and service discovery. There’s sprinkle of Kubernetes in a few places too.
- Kafka. The underlying store which allows us to reliably distribute and process a high-throughput of events.
- Ansible and Terraform. Our tools for infrastructure as code, enabling provisioning, configuration management, and deployment across our environments.
- GitHub Actions. Powers our CI/CD pipelines.
- Grafana, Mimir, Loki, and Pyroscope. We use the Grafana stack for observability, which includes metrics, logging, continuous profiling, and alerting.
- Plus many more. The teams we support use a few different languages such as Python and Ruby, plus a variety of other services.
